The history of Girard-Perregaux

Girard-Perregaux boasts a rich heritage dating back to 1791, with roots intertwined with the legendary watchmaker Jean-François Bautte. Though the brand we know today wasn't officially established until 1852 by Constant Girard and Prosper Perregaux, Bautte's legacy of precision watchmaking laid the foundation for their future success.

In 1860, Girard-Perregaux created a pocket watch featuring a tourbillon and three parallel bridges, a groundbreaking design that received a first-class award from the Observatory of the Canton of Neuchâtel. This accomplishment solidified their position at the forefront of Swiss watchmaking.

Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Girard-Perregaux continued to push boundaries. In 1889, they unveiled the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, a masterpiece that garnered two gold medals at the Paris Universal Exhibitions and remains one of the most coveted mechanical watches ever made. Their dedication to high horology continued with the development of ultra-thin movements and complex chronographs.

The mid-20th century saw Girard-Perregaux embrace a more contemporary aesthetic. In 1975, they launched the Laureato, a groundbreaking sports watch featuring a bold octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet. This iconic design captured the spirit of the era and continues to be a cornerstone of their collection today.
